AUTONOMY

I think everyone is already used to the fact that Doogee likes to exaggerate the battery capacity in their smartphones. Doogee X5 Max is no exception. 4000 mAh is declared, in fact we get less, but not at all by much - the tester showed 3640 mAh. The capacity is impressive and the battery really can be called long-lasting.

In the mode of playing videos via WiFi from YouTube, the battery is discharged at a rate of 9-10% per hour. In real operating conditions, the X5 MAX easily lives without an outlet for 1.5-2 days, and under low loads it will last even more. The complete charging is honest - it gives out 1A, but for such a solid battery it is, of course, not enough. Smart takes a long time to charge - a little over 4 hours. However, it makes no sense to use more powerful s / u, tk. the phone does not accept more than 1A of current.

VERDICT

The Doogee X5 MAX now costs about $ 7-8 more than the regular X5. With such a small difference in price, we get a fresh 6th Android, a fingerprint scanner, cameras adequate for such a price, and good battery life. Among the shortcomings, we can note the presence of a malicious file in the system, no flash, and the absence of 4G. But all these disadvantages are more than offset by numerous advantages and, of course, the low price of a smartphone. It turned out to be a decent ultra-budget device, purely a workhorse with a long-lasting battery.

WHERE TO BUY DOOGEE X5 MAX:

VIDEO VERSION OF THE REVIEW

Everyone, choosing a smartphone (and making any other purchase), wants to buy the best, top-end model. But this is not always possible for the most prosaic reasons - the prices for such gadgets in the current situation are simply astronomical. So you have to make a compromise, choosing the most suitable option among the devices of the middle, budget and extra-budget segment. Just a representative of the latter came to our review.

What's this?

DOOGEE X5 Max is a purebred chinese smartphone... With a price in our stores within 2,000 hryvnia (about ten percent of the average cost of a flagship phone), it is equipped seriously enough to compete on an equal footing with mid-range models from AAA manufacturers (or even emerge as a winner). There is a 4000 mAh battery, a fingerprint scanner, and Android 6.0, and support for two SIM cards, and a gigabyte of RAM and many other goodies.

What is in the box?

While most manufacturers pursue downsizing and simplifying packaging under the banner of caring for the environment, DOOGEE is simply saving on it. Agree, it's better to get a less pretentious box than a smartphone with Bluetooth 3.0 instead of 4.0. The package bundle of the smartphone is minimal, although not quite budgetary. At least DOOGEE did not skimp on the charger - judging by the marking, it is designed for a current of one ampere. This is especially true when you consider large capacity the battery used in the gadget.

What does DOOGEE X5 Max look like?

What else they saved when creating the DOOGEE X5 Max smartphone was design and materials. The appearance of the device, frankly speaking, is not outstanding - an unassuming variation on the now popular solution “black rectangle with a silver border”. The designers tried to reduce the noticeable completeness of the case by making this border narrower, but such tricks cannot hide the weight under 200 grams. The edging, of course, is not metal, but made of painted plastic. There are no retractable hatches on the side ends. The SIM and memory card slots are hidden behind a removable back cover.

The front panel is completely covered with glass and factory adhesive film. The latter has a moderate oleophobicity and a noticeable "mirror" effect when viewed from the side. You can consider her additional measure to protect your private data from individuals who like to look at the screens of other people's smartphones.

DOOGEE X5 Max uses matte plastic for the back panel. In appearance, it should fit well in the hand. But if you have dry palms, your phone becomes slippery, like a wet bar of soap. Even with a cursory examination of the exterior of the device, it is impossible not to notice that in addition to the usual camera and flash, one of the smartphone's attractions is also located on the back panel - a fingerprint scanner (still a rare option for devices in this price segment).

Having cuddled the DOOGEE X5 Max smartphone in your hands, you begin to suspect that the edging is still metal - it can withstand external influences very much. The answer lies inside. Looking into the battery compartment reveals an aluminum frame hidden inside. It is she who provides the body with solidity and additional stability.

How is he with the screen?

The five-inch screen uses an IPS-panel with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels. Between matrix and protective glass there is an air gap, which slightly impairs the readability of the screen in the sun. The level of backlighting affects readability more noticeably. In this smartphone at maximum power, it is not very high, so under bright light, the colors on it noticeably fade. But the minimum level of brightness is very comfortable when using the device at night. But the screen still has one notable drawback. Not even at the screen itself, but at touch pad- it detects only two touches. In most programs this is not so critical, but in games there may simply not be enough "controls".

Does the DOOGEE X5 Max have enough performance?

Quad core MediaTek processor The MT6580 used in the DOOGEE X5 Max phone does not boast extreme power. This can be clearly seen in the tests. But in everyday use, the slowdowns are noticeable only in toys (although playing Asphalt 8 with a light slow mo is a pleasure - you go through all the turns perfectly). A gigabyte of RAM is enough for everyday activities. On average, the system, clients of social networks and Skype eat up about 79% of the RAM. So there is a constant supply of 200 megabytes of RAM.

What is the DOOGEE X5 Max version of the operating system?

This model is quite new so that we immediately get Android M. The basic interface is slightly modified - the list of programs is displayed not on several screens, but as a scrolling ribbon. Otherwise, we have regular Android.

Although if you delve deeper into the settings, it becomes clear that in itself operating system a lot of nice features have been added. So the options turned out to be a QR code scanner (which is usually installed a separate program), fingerprint scanner customization tool, turbo download mode, smart gestures and smart unlock.

What do these options give us? No special view QR code scanner required. Therefore, let's go straight to setting biometric scanner... To use it, you first need to set unlock by pin code or graphic password... The process of registering a fingerprint is relatively long - you need to swipe your finger over the scanner many times so that the program can get the maximum full information... In the future, this allows her to "recognize" your papillary pattern at any tilt and direction of movement of the finger. In addition to unlocking a smartphone, a fingerprint can also serve as a key to access programs or websites. In this case, you also need to set an additional pin-code for "emergency" access without fingerprints. Also, the scanner can be used to control some programs (simple one-button actions such as switching tracks, or as a camera shutter button).

Turbo downloading is an interesting function, but in our realities it is not yet relevant. Its essence is that when downloading files from the Internet, both mobile Internet and Wi-Fi are used simultaneously, summing up the bandwidth of both channels. But this only makes sense on 4G networks. The increase in speed from connecting a 3G channel is not worth the money spent on mobile traffic.

Smart gestures are nearly as practical as using a fingerprint scanner to control programs. With this option, the same flipping and scrolling is available, only not by touching the scanner, but by waving your palm in front of the front camera and the proximity sensor.

Smart unlock, on the other hand, is a really interesting feature. Usually, to call a program or perform an action, you need to "wake up" the screen and only then start the desired program... And with "smart unlock" the application is launched directly from an inactive screen. It is enough to draw the desired symbol on the off display and we immediately find ourselves in the program we need. Unfortunately, there is no way to independently set a pair from the application and the activation mark - their set is preinstalled and cannot be changed or expanded. In the list of basic programs of the system: camera, web browser, file manager, music player and phone. In addition, "smart unlock" allows you to control music playback, as well as "wake up" the phone by double tapping on the screen.

Are there many preinstalled programs?

I am glad that DOOGEE did not overload the smartphone with unnecessary software. Basic delivery only Google services and a couple of their programs. Moreover, their selection was so severe that there was no room even for a weather widget. Of course, this is not a problem on a smartphone, because you can always install the program of your favorite meteorological service.

What programs, according to DOOGEE, were so useful that they could get into the firmware? In addition to the keyboard with support for Burmese and other Asian languages, we get office suite Documents To Go, Parallel Space program for separating work and home accounts and DG Xender proprietary file sharing utility.

Actually, the last two programs are of the greatest interest. Parallel Space allows you to keep multiple accounts on your smartphone in the same program. It is enough to launch this application and add what you need: work email, social networks with a group administrator account, or even install some Tinder or Lovetime in a special "hidden" mode (the program will not appear in the list of applications outside Parallel Space). Access to additional accounts can be password-protected to protect data in case of loss of a smartphone or annoying interest from the other half. For ease of use and management, there is a built-in task manager and a utility for tracking the amount of work additional accounts... In general, the program is interesting and useful not only for dividing work and personal life.

The DG Xender is a whole software harvester. Usually, manufacturers share the functions implemented in it among several applications, but DOOGEE decided not to multiply the icons. In this program, direct export / import of smartphone settings and a file transfer service between this phone and other smartphones and computers converged under one roof. I wonder what is supported as work through existing wifi network and hotstpot. Only photo and video files can be transferred to the computer. But during operations with another Android smartphone you can transfer both programs and documents and entire folders - the main thing is to install DG Xender on it too (it is available on Google Play).

How does DOOGEE X5 Max shoot?

Surprisingly, but the DOOGEE X5 Max phone claims to be a faithful friend of not a fan of being photographed. In this model, the main and front cameras are equipped with 5 MP sensors with support for interpolation up to 8 MP. Of course, it would be better to have a full 8 megapixels without software processing, but the budget dictates its limits.

The camera has quite a few settings - color effects, manual exposure adjustment, and the choice of ISO, contrast, brightness and other basic parameters. You can also activate burst shooting, time-lapse movie, self-timer, voice memo recording, smile shot and face detection. But all this is hidden in the depths of the settings. V quick access there is only the choice of the mode (normal, beauty and panoramic shooting), activating HDR mode, gesture shot, flash control and switching between the front and rear cameras. If a user-friendly interface was made for all the camera's capabilities, then there would be no price for it. And so - there is good potential, which needs to be presented correctly.

The photo and video quality is excellent for a device of this price category. The camera performs well in bright sunlight and artificial lighting. Where it is difficult for her is at dusk - here the automation can give noticeable failures.

How is he doing?

On the phone side, DOOGEE X5 Max is doing well. The speaker is loud and clear, the microphone does not distort the voice and intonation. The call can be heard even in the subway (if you put a normal melody instead of the default one). The vibrating call is noticeable, although it is partially neutralized by the internal metal frame.

Interestingly, the dialer's interface is trying to adapt to the owner of the phone. Favorite contacts you can fill it in yourself, or you can leave it to chance - gradually they will be filled with those subscribers with whom you most often communicate. The list of calls not only shows the time of the last connection with the subscriber, but also informs about the number and direction of calls with icons. Nice care for those who prefer to use their smartphone for making calls rather than launching mobile applications.

In terms of operating time, the results are very good. During normal use of a smartphone (20 minutes of calls, about an hour of social networks, ten minutes of navigation, half an hour of games, constantly active mobile internet and Wi-Fi), its battery lasts for two days. He will ask for exercises late in the evening of the second day.

What features does DOOGEE X5 Max have?

The DOOGEE X5 Max smartphone has not done without some nuances. Surprisingly, there are not many of them, but they are. This is how the camera application starts up in beauty mode all the time. For selfies, this is an undeniable plus. But if you want to photograph not a person's face, but some document, a building or a landscape, then a filter that will blur skin imperfections will only interfere.

The second feature is related to the smart unlock function. In the same LG G2, a similar functionality works only if the proximity sensor is not covered by anything (that is, it is at least not in your pocket). And in DOOGEE X5 Max, you can safely go online, take a couple of dozen photos, or even call your ex - and all this without taking it out of your pocket. Hands-free, so to speak. You can fight this problem with a book cover or put your smartphone in your pocket with the screen away from you.

In the dry residue

To be honest, starting to review this phone, I was extremely skeptical. But considering the price DOOGEE X5 Max in Ukraine and the implemented functionality is a surprisingly interesting and profitable purchase. Moreover, it is not only and not so much the technical characteristics that bribe, but the fact that the manufacturer did not begin to cut the smartphone at the software level (which the more eminent manufacturers do not disdain). So if you need to get the most out of your 2000 hryvnia, you should pay attention to the DOOGEE X5 Max phone.
